There are 3 main nationwide consumer reporting companies Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of this reporting agencies to provide customer with a no cost copy of his or her credit report once every 1 year at customer's request. The FCRA supports the security, privacy and accuracy of the customer's personal information in the archives of the consumer reporting agencies. The nation’s consumer protection agency - The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), enforces the FCRA with respect to reporting agencies.
Any credit report includes different personal information such as: how you pay your bills, your current address, and whether you have been sued, or filed for inconsistence. Consumer reporting agencies sell this personal information in credit report to insurers, creditors, and other financial organizations which use this information for appraising their business risks with customer's applications, such as: insurance, credit.
